Submissions update: Audio drama OPEN submissions, limited prose submissions, CLOSED submissions for comics and illustrators
Thank you to all creators who pitched in our first round of submissions! We’re very impressed with the quality we’re seeing. Ladies and gentlemen, you’re collectively awesome.
This is a status update, based on our preliminary review of all submissions:
–Audio drama submissions have now been opened to the public. We’ll be accepting audio pitches until March 24th. This is the format that seemed to scare some people and we want to encourage more writers to give it a shot. The audio format is awesome. Did you ever hear about this? Or these? I’m sure some of you are familiar with this. IT’S AWESOME. GO FOR IT. Submission guidelines are a PDF file that can be downloaded here.
–Prose submissions are still open to a select number of pre-screened applicants. If you’re interested in pitching a prose serial, please contact editorial@chromaticpress.com with a link to online examples of your work (a portfolio, blog, or fanfiction will suffice). If you pass the pre-screening, you’ll be contacted with more details on how to pitch.
–Comic and illustrator submissions are now closed. We received a great variety of these and will be contacting artists with our responses in the coming weeks.
Thank you for your interest! And keep up the great work.
Woohoo! Good to luck to everybody submitting projects. Unfortunately, didn’t get a chance to polish up my pitch on such short notice but I hope to get another chance during the next round. Looking forward to Sparkler Monthly sticking around for a while. ^_~
Thanks again for the great opportunity, Chromatic Press team! Keep rockin’, ladies!
We were surprised and pleased with the number of pitches we got with such short notice (and with only semi-open submissions). We were also talking to a number of creators before we even announced ourselves as a publisher.
We’ll be open to comics again in the future. I look forward to seeing what you have up your sleeve, Laurianne. 🙂
Oh no! I only just heard about the illustrator and comic applications. I guess I’ll wait for the next round of submissions. : C Is there any chance of there being any administration/marketing positions available to apply to?
At the moment, all administration, marketing, etc. for Chromatic Press is handled in-house or through a selection of freelancers we’ve worked with before. But thanks for asking. 🙂
Ah, I see! Thank you very much for responding!
I love the audio drama idea so I’m curious about the submissions submission. Are you guys looking particularly for just story submissions or does it include voice actors as well?
Right now, we’re only looking for an audio script — we can’t cast it until we know what parts we’re looking for. I will hopefully be casting sometime in the next few weeks. We’re looking for actors mostly in the Toronto area — unfortunately, right now we aren’t able to accept any actors who can’t do their recording in person.
Once we’re actually casting, we’ll put up an announcement on this site and our twitter and facebook with more information.
I have no comics ready for this yet. Do you guys only accept completed projects? Or can they just be a pitch?
I want to enter the next time it happens, hopefully. :3 Also, does that mean we may have a recording of Off*beat in the future? That’ll be amazing!
Sorry, Christian – your comment got caught in our spam filter.
We have specific submission guidelines re: how to design your pitch, but they’re not available now, since the submissions period is closed. But we’ll post an update within a week about the next round of submissions.
And as for Off*Beat in audio format, we’ve set that as a stretch goal ($15K) on our Kickstarter, actually: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/chromaticpress/off-beat-vols-1-2-chromatic-press-editions/posts
Thanks for your interest and support!
Hi!
I see it says above that you are still open for prose submissions on a limited basis. Are you still accepting pre-screening emails, or are those submissions closed as well?
Thank you!
Susie
This round actually closed back in March, but we’ll be opening again soon. We’ll post an update with more details within a week.
Thank you!
